Betty and Ray met at Betty’s cousin Rachel 21st birthday party in 1953 and married a year later on the 9th September 1954. They married in the Independent West lion Chapel and lived in Finedon, Northamptonshire. Betty owned a small shop with David Elderton which was called Cross & Elderton Florist and Ray was a carpenter and also fitted the inside of caravans. Ray and Betty owned a caravan and travelled the UK on weekend and week breaks.
“Ray &Betty were 63 years married on the 9th September 2017. Boniface arranged flowers for Betty from Ray, a 3 course meal where Ray & Betty were waited on by staff. In the evening Boniface arranged an Anniversary Party where fellow residents were invited to celebrate with them. We had a wonderful singer for them on that evening and a fantastic time was had by all.”
Ray and Betty moved to Boniface on the 20th June 2017 where they each had a bedroom and different lounges but would spend their day together in one lounge. At night Ray and Betty wanted to be together so night staff would find that one of them had gone into the others bedroom and would find them asleep in a single bed. As soon as a larger room became available the staff excitedly moved Ray and Betty to their new bedroom together which they were very happy about . Bettys words were “This is such a kind thing to do!”. Their spare bedroom was then changed into a living area for them both which allowed them privacy and enabled them to have quality time together as a couple .
